First off, if this seems complicated, it's because IT IS. The makers of geektool never promised otherwise (for now). Hopefully these notes will enlighten you a bit.

Desktop customized with GeekTool modifications. Info bar on with time, weather, calendar, system info, battery/ram/CPU meters, and now playing on iTunes and Spotify.

Keeping it simple.
I just downloaded geektools last night and was playing with it up until 2-3 in the morning. At first I wanted to clutter the whole desktop with activity monitors, traffic photos, a custom wallpaper, etc. I decided on keeping it functional and simple.
- Hid the dock on the bottom which pulls up when I hover the mouse over the bottom of the screen.
- Kept the time on the top right without the day showing... Since it's on the desktop :)
- The weather is there just so I don't have to open iGoogle (my dashboard w/ widgets.)
- I removed the spotlight icon using a terminal tip found here.
- I added the GrowlTunes (found here) so I can just use my MBP's function controls (F7-F9) to flip through tracks.
- Google Notifier (found here) so I don't have open iGoogle and it 'pushes' my email and calendar events right on my desktop, growl style.
- The uptime on the bottom left of the screen is just there so I can glance at how long I can keep the MBP up without rebooting. No real purpose other then that.

This is a screenshot of my desktop on my Macbook Pro! This is the first time I've tried to customize a desktop. Using Candybar, I downloaded new icons through deviantart.com and changed all dock icons and general files. Then I used Geektool to put time, date and day on the desktop. Then I customized the menu bar with Nocturne, so it dimmed when not in use. The 'currently-playing' track is shown on the side using Bowtie, with the 'Tidgy' theme by Ben Briggs. Background is found in deviantart.com! For a first time shot I thought it was worth showing! I've found all information online, and I had no clue about these things before I started. I used a few hours over a weekend to make it.

Well, I may be just a little slow in uploading this desktop (*whistles innocently* - you mean it's not June anymore?) but better late than never. No major changes, just fiddling with the colours, fonts and wallpapers.

Horray!!! Its on Lifehacker.com !!!!This is my second attempt with geektool and its totally different from my first lol. Ever since the days of Jet Set Radio Future (Video Game) I have always had an eye for graffiti. Call me a nerd i know but hey it was a great game. If you have any questions just ask. If you look closely some of the graffiti is my clock, date, month, weekday, CPU, RAM, Uptime, Top Processes, Weather, battery, to do list, and calendar. I tried to make the ultimate blending in my background.

Changed dock icons with Candybar
Used Mirage for a clear dock.

Inspired by the Enigma desktop, I tried to reach something similar on the Mac. Also, if anyone knows of a way to hide HD Icons it would be greatly appreciated.
Version 1.2 of my desktop setup on the iMac. Partial inspired by the Shelves theme for the iPhone and the desire to get away from using an 'ordinary' desktop. Added a few personal touches such as the personal photos and the notes on the pinboard, as well as my own logo on the wallpaper.
For this version, I installed GeekTool to create a more dynamic What's On! notice, as well as for the calendar showing today's date. You will also notice the lack of the dock as I hardly use it anymore since I launch everything via QuickSilver or Spotlight.
And do let me know if this desktop has inspired you to set up your own desktop in a similar fashion. Would definitely love to see it.
Version 1.1 can be seen here.

Well, after getting annoyed with my last attempt - it didn't even make a day - I came up with this. While it's a lot more simple than some of my previous desktops, I really like how it turned out.
Feel free to drop a comment with any questions relating to the desktop.
Like? Dislike? Thoughts? Comments? Random Star Wars quotes?
Okay, got bored of the first one, and made this. Blob au mieux icons, geektool everything else. I finally found out how to get the yahoo weather image to change. It involves geektool and applescript editor.

My husband has been in 'creative' mode lately. He decided to emulate the movie Batman where the spotlight displays the Bat symbol. This is where he decided to display the Apple Logo in the Spotlight using PhotoShop in a Cityscape background.
For the time in the top right corner, I used the Gorgy Clock (Yahoo Widget: widgets.yahoo.com/widgets/gorgy-clock)
For the CPU, RAM, and UPTIME, I used GeekTool (for the shell scripts, check out applevie.ws
For the calendar, I used Dateline. (You can get DateLine Calendar here www.machinecodex.com/dateline/index.php for free)
The font used in GeekTool and DateLine Calendar is Eurostile Regular (which can be downloaded here www.fontyukle.com/en/Eurostile.ttf)

Simple, Sweet, relaxing. I like the cut off text in Windows Phone 7, so i put it in my desktop. It gives it a natural feel.
I also took advantage of the single point perspective to put the text in a linear arrangement that is in harmony with the lines of the image. I find it aesthetically soothing.
Nocturnal for the menubar. Sometimes the menubar fades when my mouse is off of it, i still haven't figured out why, but im not complaining; it does wonders for the minimalist feel.
I got the image off of interfacelift (http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper_beta/details/1621/san_galgano_abbey_-_tuscany.html)
and used geektool for the text.
Mac OSX 10.7.4 Lion - Clean and subtle.

Also included a little winter reminder of one of my all-time favourite authors, Bill Watterson. Did you spot it?
